Directions for Distance learning week 8– Miss Tasha, Preschool

Hi there! Although Acorn’s preschool and pre-k programs will be opening for essential workers, I realize there are still many students who will be home for the next couple of weeks. For this reason, I still wanted to provide some at home activities that you can do with your child. As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns either through Remind or [email protected]

Dinosaurs! – As we enter a new month, we are now switching from our space unit and into dinosaurs! Please check out the activities below and be sure to send pictures and/or videos of your activities to Miss Tasha on Remind or on our Facebook group page!

D is for dinosaur – Included in your packet is a dinosaur cut out craft that you can simply have your student cut out (with your help) and then put the pieces together to make your “D for dinosaur”! Have your student decorate their dinosaur and then use it to find other things that start with the letter D.

Dinosaur masks – Included in your packet are two dinosaur masks that your student can cut out, decorate, and wear during imaginary play!

Online dinosaur crafts – Click the links below for more fun dinosaur crafts and activities that you can at home!

Reading log – Included in your packet is a reading log for your child to print and complete. Similar to our previous reading logs, your child will color a cloud every time you or someone else reads to them. If you do not have a printer, simply take a blank piece of paper and have your child draw a cloud every time they are read to.

Class YouTube channel – We now have a class YouTube channel where you can find all of the extra fun videos posted by all your child’s teachers. Click the link below and then click “videos”.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_XY5rcs5eL366sfFlVchiQ/featured?disable_polymer=1

Space activity sheets – Included in your packet are multiple space themed activity sheets that range from tracing, matching, patterns, and counting. Work on the sheets throughout the week with your student to enhance these skills and give them a better understanding of space and our solar system.

Space snacks – An easy way to help our preschoolers learn about space is through food! Click the links below for some easy and healthy space snacks that you can make with your child at home.

Alien finger puppets – Scissors and tape will be required to complete this activity. Included in your packet are alien finger puppets. Ask child to color and decorate their alien puppets. Cut the finger puppets out following the dotted lines. Fold the strip around your fingers and tape together

Construct an astronaut – Scissors and glue will be required to complete this activity. Included in your packet you will find an astronaut sheet. Ask students to color, decorate and cut out their astronaut. Attach the head, arms and legs to the body using paper fasteners (use the grey dots as a guide). Alternatively, use glue to attach the head, arms and legs. Use the astronauts for pretend play!

M is for moon – Included in your packet is an “M is for moon” coloring sheet. Have your child color, paint, or decorate the picture and then use the paper to find other letter “M’s” around the house.

Directions for Distance Learning Week 2 – Miss Tasha

Remind app – Included in the activities/homework packet you will find information on how to sign up for the Remind app. The Remind app is a great way to stay connected to your child’s teacher and communicate important information about the class. If you have not already signed up, please take the time to do so, as this will be a great way to share important information during this unique time.

Reading chart – We strongly encourage reading to your child every day for at least 20 minutes. Included with the activities/homework packet you will find a reading chart that you may print and fill out. Each day has 6 boxes, we ask that you color or put a sticker on the box that shows how many minutes you read to your child on that day. Example, if you read to your child for a total of 30 minutes on Wednesday, you will put a sticker or color the “30 min” box for Wednesday.

If you do not have a printer at home, you may create your own reading chart with your child, or simply write down the books that you read with a note of how many minutes you read to your child. **Send pictures of your child’s reading log/pictures of your child reading books to Miss Tasha via the Remind app for a special surprise when we return to school!

“Children are made leaders on the laps of their parents” – Emilie Buchwald

Listening response sheet – In the activities/homework packet you will also find a “listening response” sheet. Simply print out the sheet and have your child pick one of the books that you read to them from their reading chart. Help your child answer the two questions, and then encourage them to draw a picture in the given box showing what their favorite part of the book was.

If you do not have a printer, simply answer the questions and have your child draw their picture on a blank sheet of paper.**Send pictures of your child’s completed listening response sheet to Miss Tasha via the Remind app for a special surprise when we return to school!

Finger paint name tracing – A fun way to get your child to practice recognizing their name is through finger paint tracing! Simply write their name on a piece of paper, give them a small amount of paint, and allow them to use their pointer finger to trace the letters in their name with dots from their finger. If you do not have paint, try using other materials such as stickers, markers, or highlighters. Send a picture of your child trying this activity to Miss Tasha via Remind for a special surprise when we return. You may also bring this activity into class when we return to share with other students.

Cleaning up – One of our big focuses within our classroom has been cleaning up after ourselves. We encourage you to continue this lesson at home with your child. Send a picture to Miss Tasha via Remind of your child cleaning up after themselves (or helping others to clean up) for a special surprise when we return.

Recycling project – We have been learning all about nature and springtime as well as keeping our Earth clean and well taken care of. Take the time to discuss recycling with your child and show them examples of how items can be reused for different purposes. We encourage you to create a recycle sculpture with your child by gathering recycled materials such as egg cartons, milk/juice cartons, empty cardboard boxes, newspapers, etc and work with your child to create something new with them. The sculpture can be something that can now be used for something else such as a basket or container to hold things or it can be something silly and fun such as a robot or just a fun sculpture to look at. Bring your child’s sculpture into class or send Miss Tasha pictures of the project via Remind for a special surprise when we return. Click on the link below for some ideas on how to get started:

http://www.artforsmallhands.com/2012/05/three-dimensional-recycled-sculptures.html

Gonoodle – Gonoodle is an excellent online resource for your child that offers all kinds of music and movement, math, language, and indoor activities that will help keep your little one moving. Click the link below to get started:

https://family.gonoodle.com/

Cosmic kids yoga – We love to focus our brain and bodies with some relaxing yoga! Click the link below to check out the yoga channel on Youtube that we use in our classroom.

Facebook private group – We now have a private Facebook group for our preschool class only. Simply look up the group title “Miss Tasha’s preschool” on Facebook and request to join. I’ve been posting daily morning story videos as well as other interactive videos and activities for your child to enjoy! If you do not have a Facebook or prefer to watch the videos another way, I’ve provided the links for the videos that I have posted on YouTube below:

Sink or float nature experiment – A fun and easy way to incorporate science into our nature theme is to try a sink or float nature experiment! Simply collect a variety of nature items with your child such as leaves, sticks, rocks, dirt, grass, sand, bark, etc. Then fill a bucket/tub with water and one at a time add the items into the water and observe which ones sink and which ones float. Have your child guess or hypothesize first before putting the items in. Send pictures of your child doing this experiment to Miss Tasha through Remind or on our Facebook group page to share your findings!

Click the link below for some ideas on how to execute this experiment as well as other ways to have fun with it!

Painting with mud! – We LOVE to get messy in the classroom through super fun and engaging sensory activities. If you’re feeling up to the messy adventure, try putting some mud into a bucket or bin and allow your child to play and feel with their hands as they would with playdough. You could also give them a paintbrush, a small cup of mud, and a paper and see what beautiful masterpieces they create! Be sure to share your experience with this unique activity through Remind or our Facebook group page.

I’ve provided a couple more pictures below of some fun nature related activities that we planned to do in the classroom that you can do with your child at home!

Rock balancing and nature fairy wands! Give them a try!

****Parent questionnaire I still need these questionnaires from Tyler, Bella, Haisley H., Haizley R., and Devon. Included in your packet there is a parent questionnaire to fill out, sign, and return to class. If you have not filled one of these out yet, please do so, and return to Miss Tasha when we return OR you can simply scan and email it to Miss Tasha at acorntasha @cableone.net

Weather color and match Included in your packet is a weather matching sheet to print and complete with your child. Take this opportunity to discuss weather, what we wear during different types of weather, and what different types of weather look like

Living vs Nonliving This week we will be looking at living and nonliving things and explaining what that means. Included in your packet, you will find two different activities that you can do with your child at home. The first activity is taking your child on a nature walk and then drawing pictures in each column of living and nonliving things that you see, (ex. Cars, houses, roads, trees, birds, bugs, etc).

The second activity is a color, cut, and paste sorting activity. Have your child cut out each picture and glue onto the “is it alive?chart. If you do not have child size scissors, simply have your child color only the living pictures. If you do not have a printer at home, simply create your own pictures/charts to have your child complete.

Sensory play As Ive mentioned before, we love to get messy in the classroom and explore with all of our senses! Sensory play is one of the easiest and most fun ways to get your child smiling and learning all at the same time. Below are some links to some super fun sensory activities to do with your child, be creative, be silly, have fun!

Letters and shapes One of the ways we get our students to start recognizing shapes and letters is through shape walks! In the classroom, we print out shapes and letters, cut them each out and glue each one onto a popsicle stick. Then, the students each pick one shape or letter and walk around the school to find the one they picked

You can do this in the home as well by simply drawing shapes and letters, cut them out, and tape around the house. Then draw a letter or shape for your child to hold and have them walk around the house to find all of their shape/letter

As always, please be sure to send pictures of your students participating in their activities either on remind or the Facebook group page
