Tiffini Schwanderlik
Math Teacher
Mrs. Tiffini Schwanderlik is our Dean of Students, Wellness Director, and 6th grade math teacher. She has been with Acorn for 9 years and in the education field for 11 years. She attended NAU for her Bachelors degree and is a graduate from Capella University with a Masters in School Counseling. Additionally, she has her Highly Qualified Teaching certificate. Mrs. Tiffini is passionate about promoting social and emotional well-being in each classroom at Acorn.

Jessie Dera
ELA Teacher
Mrs. Jessie Dera will be teaching sixth grade ELA this school year. She has an associates degree from Yavapai College. Mrs. Jessie has worked in the educational field for 10 years, 8 of which have been with Acorn. Mrs. Jessie continues to expand her knowledge and is completing her Bachelor’s Degree and certification in Education! She loves working with students and seeing their growth.

Shawna Faulkner
6th Grade Art
Mrs. Shawna Faulkner will be starting her fifth year at Acorn as our middle school social studies and art teacher. She is creative, has a passion for both subjects, and loves planning fun, hands-on learning activities for the students. When not at school, she is exploring with her two boys.

Aerial Austin
Science
Miss Aerial Austin will be teaching sixth grade science this year. Before joining the team, Aerial taught English at a kindergarten in Budapest, Hungary for five years. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia and a TEFL certification through the ITA academy. Miss Aerial enjoys teaching through interactive and hands-on lessons and is excited to be a part of a fun, engaging classroom. When she is not teaching she enjoys spending time with her son, traveling, hiking, and reading.
Middle School Teachers (7-8)

Kristin Holliday
Math
Ms. Kristin Holliday is our vice principal and middle school math teacher. She has been with Acorn for 18 years and has worked with students of all ages. She has a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a Minor in Criminal Justice from Northern Arizona University. Additionally, she has the following educational training which include the Arizona State highly qualified testing in grades K-8, an SEI endorsement, Middle School Math Endorsement, and is a Teacher evaluator. Ms. Holliday loves working at Acorn because she gets the chance to make a difference in the lives of our students.

Don Gagnon
Social Studies
This will be Mr. Gagnon’s eighth year teaching here at Acorn and his 18th year in the education field. He has a Master’s in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix. He is married with 3 children, Kaitlyn, Jami, and Johanna. His hobbies include hiking, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family. His favorite subjects are writing, science, and social studies.

Kati Young
Science
Mrs. Kati Young is our middle school Science teacher. She received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from NAU. Mrs. Young also has her Middle School ELA and SEI endorsements. She is going into her 10th year with Acorn. Prior to teaching she gained many skills through her work with developmentally disabled adults in group home settings. She loves working with students and “getting a front seat to watch their growth!”

Matt Rice
Math/PE Paraprofessional
Mr. Matt Rice is one of our P.E. Teachers, Athletic Director, and middle school math paraprofessional. Prior to joining the Acorn team he worked in law enforcement. Mr. Rice has been in the school setting for 14 years as a School Resource Officer and a coach for athletics up to the varsity level. After retiring from law enforcement, he came to Acorn and has been with us for 9 years. Working with children and watching them accomplish their goals and overcome adversity along the way is Mr. Rice’s favorite part of being an educator.

Lesa Gosney
ELA Paraprofessional
Mrs. Lesa Gosney is an exceptional member of our paraprofessional team. She has been with Acorn for 8 years. She has her associates degree and many hours towards her bachelors degree geared towards K-8 education. Her passion for teaching started when she tutored others during college. Mrs. Lesa’s excitement to engage students through meaningful learning is evident in her daily work. In her free time she enjoys doing anything outside with her family.

Tom Flores
Social Studies Paraprofessional & Spanish
Mr. Flores is proud to celebrate his 7th year as a dedicated paraprofessional and Spanish teacher at Acorn Montessori School. Over nearly a decade, this wonderful community has become an extension of his own family. As a proud father of four daughters and a grandfather to two beautiful grandbabies, he has seen firsthand the incredible impact of an Acorn education. Most of his children have either attended or graduated from our school, making his work here deeply personal. Beyond the classroom walls, his passion lies in mentorship and athletics. He is thrilled to serve as the coach for our school’s volleyball and basketball programs. He has also led our soccer team, recently guiding them all the way to back to back championship victories. His love for sports extends outside of school hours as well. He stays active and competitive by regularly playing in local adult leagues for softball and volleyball. Ultimately, his greatest joy is watching his students thrive. Whether guiding them through a Spanish lesson, drawing up a play on the court, or preparing them for life’s challenges, his goal remains the same. He is incredibly proud to see them learn invaluable lessons in class, on the court, and in the real world.
Renee Beaumont
Music/Science Paraprofessional
Ms. Renee joined Acorn in 2021 and has since grown into a seasoned paraprofessional with experience across multiple departments. As a paraprofessional, she has worked with students from 3rd through 8th grade and led the Music Department during the 2023–2024 school year, teaching kindergarten through 8th grade. She earned her degree in Child Development from Yavapai College, graduating with honors in leadership and academic success. Ms. Renee has also completed training in youth mental health and effective teaching strategies, which further fuels her passion for supporting and empowering students. Ms. Renee considers her greatest achievement to be welcoming her son in 2024 and helping raise her stepdaughter — experiences that continue to inspire her both personally and professionally.

Lesa Gosney
ELA Paraprofessional
Mrs. Lesa Gosney is one of our most seasoned paraprofessionals. She took a short break off to raise her youngest son and we are very excited to have her back. This year she will be working in the middle school ELA classroom. When not at work Mrs. Lesa enjoys everything outdoors and being with her three boys and husband.
Damaris DelValle
1:1 Paraprofessional
Damaris Del Valle will provide math intervention support this school year. She was born in Lima, Peru, and moved to the US in 2008 where she became a citizen. Her love for math took her to start studies in engineering at a prestigious Peruvian university; however, very soon she realized her real calling was in the field of psychology and education. She became a Licensed Psychologist with studies in Educational, Clinical and Developmental Psychology in her native Peru. She can’t wait to share all of her knowledge and passion for education with the families of Acorn Schools. In her free time, she is an enthusiastic hiker, loves outdoor activities, enjoys arts and crafts and has 3 adorable dogs.
Tiffiny Smith
Math Interventionist and Instructional Coach
Mrs. Tiffiny Smith is excited to continue serving the Acorn Montessori community as the Math Interventionist and Instructional Coach. Mrs. Smith brings over 24 years of experience in education, having taught and coached students and teachers across multiple grade levels in Arizona and Texas. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in Education and her Master of Education from Northern Arizona University. Mrs. Smith is passionate about helping every student develop confidence in mathematics while partnering with teachers to create engaging, meaningful learning experiences. She believes that all children can succeed when they are challenged, supported and encouraged to think deeply. Whether she is working with small intervention groups, coaching teachers, or collaborating on instructional strategies, her goal is to inspire a love of learning and help every student reach their full potential. Outside of school, Mrs. Smith enjoys spending time with her family exploring the outdoors. Whether hiking Arizona’s beautiful trails, traveling to national parks or discovering new places together, she loves making memories and embracing new adventures with her family.
